Celebrating Glen’s Remarkable Career with Riverina Stockfeeds

After an impressive 22-and-a-half years, Riverina Stockfeeds Ruminant Specialist Glen Whitton is hanging up his boots. His career has been marked by dedication, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to Australian livestock industries. As he steps into retirement, we take a moment to reflect on his incredible journey and the lasting impact he has made.

Glen’s passion for livestock and nutrition didn’t begin at Riverina Stockfeeds—it was ingrained in him long before. Initially aspiring to be a police officer, his path changed when he helped his father with his work as a livestock agent. Assisting his father gave him invaluable insights into the industry, leading him to work with Dalgety as a livestock auctioneer. It was there that he developed a keen understanding of the relationship between nutrition and performance in livestock, a foundation that would shape his career.

“The livestock industry constantly evolves,” Glen notes. “Back in the early 2000s, there were only a handful of ingredients used in livestock feed. Now, with advancements in genetics and nutrition science, feed formulations have expanded significantly.”

His interest in industry advancements has been instrumental in helping countless farmers and businesses grow and succeed.

Helping customers across Australia - from Kununurra and the Northern Territory, from the Gulf Country to South Eastern South Australia, Glen has seen customers enjoy both prosperous times and face debilitating challenges.

“The drought in 2018-2019 was a tough period Australian farmers faced. We had customers struggling to feed their animals. We were working seven days a week to keep up with what our customers needed, but watching local families do it tough was heartbreaking,” says Glen.

Glen’s contributions extended beyond the daily operations of Riverina Stockfeeds. He played a pivotal role in organising the bi-annual Beef4U conferences, bringing producers, customers, and industry experts together across Queensland at locations such as Warwick, Allora, Miles, Toowoomba, and Rockhampton. Additionally, he provided customers with invaluable international exposure through tours of U.S. feedlots and agricultural businesses—an experience that many of them had never had before.

Looking back on his 22 years at Riverina Stockfeeds, Glen takes great pride in what he and the team have accomplished. “I’ve had the privilege of working with many incredible people—from the Sales Team, Nutrition Team, Commodity Trading Team and Purchasing Team, but most importantly the ladies in administration especially Kerry Galvin and Cheryl Roser as well as Alan Popp and Jack Farrell whom I have worked with all this time at Warwick in their prospective  Production Manager jobs in the Dry and Liquid Plants,” he says.

"Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to all of our customers with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working over the past 22 years. It has been an honour to support Aussie feedlotters as well as dairy, pig, and poultry farmers, families, small businesses and more in their vital role in feeding this country. Your trust and support have enabled us to uphold the quality and service we’ve been known for since 1927," Glen says.

Though retiring from Riverina Stockfeeds, Glen won’t be slowing down anytime soon. “The next Monday, I’ll be in the yard getting into some much-needed fencing,” he laughs. But beyond farm work, he looks forward to giving back to the Warwick Cowboys Rugby League Club and the Warwick community.

Glen, your hard work and dedication have made a lasting impact on the industry, your colleagues, and the customers you’ve supported throughout the years. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement, and best wishes for the next chapter.
